Na specializiranem sejmu avtomobilskih motorjev Engine Expo 2003 v Stuttgartu, so podelili priznanje za motor leta 2004 v razli?nih kategorija ter skupno. Za motor leta je glasovalo 56 novinarjev iz 24 držav. Kar 51 novinarjev je postavilo toyotin hibridni motor na prvo mesto, sledil je volkswagnov dizelski motor V10, tretje mesto pa je v skupni razvrstitvi dosegel BMW-jev 3.2 litrski motor. Toyotin motor je postal izredno popularen in zanimiv zaradi zmogljivosti in ekonomi?nosti, ki jih zagotavlja kombinacija elektri?nega in motorja z notranjim izgorevanjem.
